Welcome

  • School Choice allows for all eighth-grade or newly entering students the flexibility of selecting from any of Paterson Public Schools pathways offerings based upon their personal areas of interest. Although the recent Board of Education goal of “high school restructuring” has created some changes for students and families, many things remain the same. The restructuring resulted in each high school offering themes and pathways which expose students to diverse college and career-preparatory classes.

Through School Choice and other initiatives, the District offers personalized academic and social high school experiences, which vary from school to school. School Choice helps set the stage for every student to have a productive, enjoyable and – above all – successful high school experience.

If you have questions about any of our high schools or about the high school choice process, please email highschoolchoice@paterson.k12.nj.us

Placement of Students with Disabilities

  • A component of the district’s “Paterson – A Promising Tomorrow” is School Choice, which allows students entering high schools an opportunity to choose from six high school academy options based on their career and college interests. In addressing the issue of choice for students with disabilities, several factors must be considered consistent with New Jersey Administrative Code: Special Education (N.J.A.C. 6A:14) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act therefore the Child Study Team will assist students and families with choosing high school academy options that are based on appropriate programming as well as student interests.
