June 6, 2023 - Third Graders At Public School No. 27 Will Receive Activity Book Donation
Representatives from The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) and the PSEG Foundation visited Public School No. 27 to donate Third Grade Life Choices Coloring and Activity Book, a booklet aimed at educating young students on how to make safe and healthy living choices.

June 5, 2023 - Paterson Public Schools STEAM High School Hosts Its 2nd Annual Wear Orange Gun Violence Awareness Walk
In January of last year, a Paterson STEAM High School honor student who had earned a full scholarship to Montclair State University was killed in a crossfire while bringing groceries to his grandmother.

June 1, 2023 - Two Year Long Youth Equity Stewardship Program Concludes With Student-Lead Projects Showcase
Students and faculty from five schools gathered at Rosa L. Parks High School to wrap up a two-year program aimed at addressing equity in school communities. Funded through ESSER II, the Youth Equity Stewardship (Y.E.S.) program was initiated at Eastside High School, Kennedy High School, The Rosa L. Parks School of the Fine and Performing Arts, the Dr. Frank Napier, Jr. School of Science & Technology, and the Charles J. Riley School in October of 2021 to bring young people’s perspective, vision, creativity, and passion to the forefront of policymaking for schools in the 21st century. The day was a reflection on the students’ two-year journey towards this goal.

June 1, 2023 - Recipients Of The Laura Bush Foundation For America’s Libraries Grant Include Four District Schools
Four district schools, Roberto Clemente, New Roberto Clemente, Public School No. 27, and Dr. Hani Awadallah recently received a $5,000 grant through the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries. These schools are part of the 300 schools from 36 states across the country to receive the award. This year, the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded $1.5 million in library grants this year.

May 30, 2023 - Kennedy High School Student-athlete Commits To Montclair State University Pre-medical Program
Paterson Public Schools officials today announced that John F. Kennedy Senior Quameer Maddan has committed to attend Montclair State University (MSU)’s pre-medical program. The program provides academic support and coaching as well as assistance in preparing for the Medical College Admissions Test, or MCAT.

May 18, 2023 - District Student-Athletes Become Medalists In Area Special Olympics Competition
Student-athletes from the Dr. Hani Awadallah School (DHA), Alexander Hamilton Academy (AHA), and John F. Kennedy High School (KHS) won medals at the recent area Special Olympics Track & Field competition. The 34 medalists will compete in the 2023 NJ State Summer Games at The College of New Jersey on June 9th through June 11th.

May 17, 2023 - John F. Kennedy High School Stock Room Open For Business
John F. Kennedy High School unveiled its newly created Stock Room today, which is now part of the school’s Business and Finance Pathway. It is one of the components of the District’s High School Restructuring Plan at the high school, joining the existing school store and student-run bank, The Castle 2.0, in the updated pathway. The Stock Room features new computers, a news ticker, and other newly-purchased amenities. The classroom was presented by Superintendent of Schools Eileen Shafer, Principal of Instruction Jorge Osoria, Pathway Associate Supervisor Martine Grant, and students enrolled in the pathway.

May 12, 2023 - Updated TV Studio At John F. Kennedy High School Anchors New Communications Pathway
ohn F. Kennedy High School unveiled its updated media studios and lab today that will be part of a new Communications Path at the school. The new pathway’s facilities, comprised of a TV studio, recording studio and design lab, are part of the continuing roll-out of the District’s High School Restructuring Plan.

May 3, 2023 - Eastside High School Senior Accepted To Howard University
In a continuing trend of district students gaining acceptance to many of the nation's elite colleges and universities, Paterson Public Schools officials announced today that Eastside High School senior Paris Higgs has been accepted to Howard University. Higgs will be the first in her family to go to college. She intends to major in biology with her sights on medical school.

Among the changes Sterling-Laldee highlighted was a new data literacy component added to mathematics. She also spoke in favor of adding climate change standards in both math and ELA, which she said will help students make real-world connections across different content areas.

Paterson Public Schools officials announced today that International High School Senior Maya Mohosin has been accepted to Georgetown University. Mohosin is the latest in a series of district students who have been accepted to many of the nation’s elite colleges and universities since 2012.

Superintendent of Schools Eileen F. Shafer expressed her gratitude today to the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation for their generous donation of $20,000 to the district’s Confidence Closets initiative. The Confidence Closets help provide students in grades 6 through 12 access to the personal hygiene products they need but often cannot afford.
