IB Programs & Accelerated Cohort at International High School
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
International High School is an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy, a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that the Paterson School District believes is important for our students. Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programs: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP).
International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program (IBCP)
Modern life places complex demands on graduates entering further/higher education or employment. An integral part of the Career-related Programme is enabling students to become self-confident, skilled, and career-ready learners. To prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing world, schools must not only equip them with the necessary skills and the learning dispositions, but also the ability to manage and influence change.
The Accelerated Cohort at International - Grades 9-10
The IB Diploma Programme will require mastery of pre-requisite skills, and all students grades 9-10 as part of the “IB for All” model will be prepared for advanced study. The Accelerated Cohort aims to prepare students during their first two years of high school, for the rigors of the academically driven programs of International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment. The Accelerated Cohort at International is designed specifically for students who have the motivation and habits of mind to meet above-grade level academic standards.
Program Details
In addition to the PPS graduation requirements, ACI students will:
1) Maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average each quarter.
2) Complete subject-specific summer assignments/readings.
3) Participate in freshmen orientation
4) Participate in at least one extracurricular activity/sport each year/National History Day.
5) Complete 50 hours total community service hours.
7) Apply and interview for summer academic experiences on college campuses after freshman year (International staff will support students through this application process).
Application Process
The Accelerated Cohort and the International Baccalaureate Programme, like Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment, require students to demonstrate mastery of prerequisite skills to achieve the highest levels of success.
The International High School application process is part of the district’s High School Choice Application. After submitting your application online, please email your guidance counselor to inform them that you have applied. Your guidance counselor will then share the recommendation link with the teachers you identified to complete your recommendations.
Selection
The Accelerated Cohort at IB Diploma Programme are looking for students that are committed to academic excellence and growth.
Approximately 175 students will be selected for admission to the Paterson Public School Accelerated Cohort/ International Baccalaureate. Students selected for the program will be admitted to an honors program aimed at preparing students for the rigors of advanced coursework during their 11th and 12th grade years.
The selection committee at International High School will review applications.
