ANNUAL PARENT AWARENESS PROGRAM
TO ADDRESS MYRIAD OF TIMELY TOPICS, CONCERNS

PATERSON – October 21.  As the Paterson district seeks to strengthen its home/school connection, the month of October is now recognized as “Parent Awareness Month.”   This new designation, jointly proclaimed by a city/school district resolution, provides a full month of activities and educational opportunities for parents seeking to help their children have the best educational experience possible.  Data has proven that a high degree of parental participation in schools is uniformly reflected in higher student test scores.

On Saturday, October 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the school district will host its annual “Parent Awareness Day” event at Eastside High School on 150 Park Ave. in Paterson.   District parents, guardians and teachers are encouraged to attend a wide range of workshops, such as “coping with harassment and bullying,” “promoting literacy at home,” and “parent roles and responsibilities in education.”  The day will begin with breakfast, student performances and a dynamic keynote address by Felipe Luciano, journalist, poet and activist.

The first Puerto Rican news anchor for WNBC, felipe photo jpeg.jpgFelipe Luciano is an acclaimed entertainment and media success, including television, radio, lectures, music, poetry, journalism and stage productions.  The father of three children, he speaks knowledgeably about the parenting issues affecting minorities and working parents.   For more information on Parent Awareness Day, call 973-321-0880 or visit www.ppsparents.com
