PATERSON RECOGNIZES DISTRICT STUDENTS
FOR OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

122 Students Received Perfect Scores on State Assessments

PATERSON, New Jersey, January 19, 2011 – State District Superintendent Dr. Donnie W. Evans and the Paterson Public Schools’ Board of Education will recognize 122 students at tonight’s Board meeting for having obtained perfect math scores on the 2010 NJASK – New Jersey’s state assessment of skills and knowledge for grades 3 - 8.  Three of these students also received perfect scores on either science or language arts.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment, and one that is worthy of recognition and celebration,” said Dr. Evans.  “We should have high expectations for all students and need to offer a rigorous, challenging curriculum throughout the district.  Research shows that successful districts focus on what students can do, rather than what they cannot do.  These students demonstrate that academic excellence can be achieved.”

Paterson Public Schools, the third largest school district in New Jersey, is in its second year of a five-year District Strategic Plan.  This school district’s plan focuses on four priorities including Effective Academic Programs.
