Dr. Evans to give NAACP Keynote/Cora Quince honored
Jackie Robinson’s daughter visits Norman. S. Weir
Parent Awareness Day October 24
Memories of an illustrious dad. Sharon Robinson is much more than the offspring of an immortal sports figure, she is also an accomplished author. Ms. Robinson will be coming to the Norman S. Weir School to talk to students about her most recent work, Testing the Ice: A True Story About Jackie Robinson. “Breaking the Ice” is a metaphorical tome that closely parallels Jackie Robinson’s travails as one of the very first African Americans to enter Major League Baseball. Contact Principal Grace Giglio for more information at (973) 321-0750. Ms. Robinson will be appearing on Wednesday, October 14 at 9:30am.
“Bold Dreams, Big Victories” Not only will our own Dr. Donnie Evans be the keynote speaker for this year’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Freedom Fund Luncheon, but among the honorees will be Academy of Performing Arts/School 6 Principal, Ms. Cora Quince! This year’s luncheon is particularly noteworthy as it coincides with the centennial of the NAACP and the election of the first ever African-American as President of the United States. For more information contact Jeanette S. Lyde, (973) 563-2437 or email email@example.com . The Freedom Fund Luncheon takes place on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
Backpacks and Wheels. At the start of the new school year, second graders at the Paterson Urban Leadership Academy (PAFUL) received handsome new backpacks courtesy of the United Way. Later that month, the students got something else that would help them transport those backpacks laden with school books and supplies; brand new Bicycles and Helmets! PAFUL Principal, George Featherson remarked, “We are all very thankful to United Way. We’re a school which emphasizes leadership, so it’s great to see an organization like United Way truly leading the way.” PAFUL is now located at 112 North 5th Street, Paterson.
