    Transferring to another school

school busIf a student moves to another school district, we request that the parent or guardian go to the school secretary to obtain a transfer card. The name and address of the new school and the new home address of the student is necessary. After all books are returned to teachers, teacher signatures obtained and obligations met, the student will be issued a transfer card, current  grades, immunization records and standardized scores. Official school records will be forwarded to the new school upon written request by the receiving school.

Families who prefer to homeschool sometimes wonder “Is it legal to homeschool in New Jersey?”  The answer is an absolute, YES!  State laws regulating homeschooling and homeschoolers are minimal and straight-forward.  New Jersey homeschoolers have the freedom and flexibility to choose what, how, where, and when to teach their child(ren).  Compulsory education law in New Jersey states that every child between 6 and 16 years of age attend school (private or public) or receive “equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school.”

Although not required by law, if your child is already enrolled in Paterson Public School, you must notify the Central Registration Department when choosing to homeschool. This notification can prevent any truancy complications.

The Central Registration Department will provide the parent with the notice of intent to homeschool and will officially withdraw him/her from school (view sample letter).

Meals and P-EBT Benefits
All students who attend Paterson Public Schools are able to receive breakfast and lunch at no charge throughout the year, as well as qualify for the State’s P-EBT benefit. In order to continue to receive these benefits, Paterson Public Schools must maintain its status as an approved Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) District. We maintain this status by collecting the required number of Household Information Surveys from our families.
Your participation in this process is very important to the children of Paterson. Please complete the Household Information Survey that you received from your child’s school, or click on the link below to get a copy of the survey. If you have any questions or need assistance completing the survey, contact your child’s school. The signed survey must be submitted to your child’s school for processing.
Thank you for your cooperation!
