CTE Programs

What is Career and Technical Education (CTE)?

CTECareer and Technical Education, or “CTE”, are programs that offer academic and career-oriented courses in a given industry or career cluster, targeted at preparing students for high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand positions.   Courses have an emphasis on 21st Century skills, which translate to the job site, as well as a collegiate classroom.

Each CTE Program is guided by an Advisory Board, composed of individuals whose experience and abilities represent a cross section of a particular industry.  Many students have the opportunity to gain work experience via shadowing, internships and Structured Learning Experiences (SLEs).  Each program follows a three- or four-course sequence, culminating in an end-of-program examination in which student can earn an industry-recognized certification or credential.  Students in CTE Programs participate in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), where they are able to network and implement their learning in industry-centered competitions.
